Due to conflicting schedules with the Lone Peak Football semi-finals game, the Reflections Awards assembly has been cancelled. Teachers will be doing presentations in their classrooms and sending home the medals and certificates with students. We apologize for the late communication and hope you are able to adjust your Friday plans.

Chess club is off to a great start this year. We appreciate Mrs. Lewis and her time spent to teach strategies and host the chess club bracket. In March the chess club hosts a Human Chess Night. It's a great event to come and watch. Save the date - March 18th.

Highland Week Ahead

We will start this week by honoring our Veterans on Tuesday the 11th. Miss Louw's class will perform their annual service project of placing flags on each Veteran's grave in the city cemetery behind the school.

The 2nd Knowledge Bowl interest meeting will be held on Tuesday after school. It is not required to have attended the first meeting. This meeting is for all interested 3rd-6th grade students and their parents. We will discuss the Knowledge Bowl program, expectations, and how you can be involved.

We'll end this week on a very busy Friday with Picture Retakes, Reflections Awards, and our regular school spirit day.

Looking ahead - next week will be Connection Week. We will have a fun week with dress-up days and more. One important thing we are doing during that week is a coat drive. You can start looking now for new and gently used coats/jackets to donate.

It's going to be a great week.

We would like to give a high-5 to our parents that helped at our Halloween parties. We appreciate you taking the time to get your background check and being prepared to help.

As a quick refresher for parties: - All volunteers must be background checked & All treats must be store bought.

We have lots of fun activities and parties coming up in December. We know teachers will be asking for volunteers. If you want to be involved, please plan now to get your background check completed. It must be done at least two weeks in advance of any event you plan to attend. Any volunteer helping at the school must be background checked.

Winter is coming and along with it cold and flu season. This means an increased need for tissues, hand sanitizer, soap and paper towels in our classrooms. We appreciate any donations if these supplies to your individual student's classroom.

As we say goodbye to October and hello to November, take a minute to check out our latest edition of Highland Happenings. There's always fun and exciting things happening at Highland.

Thank you so much for your support of our impromptu Food Drive - we were able to provide over four barrels full to Tabitha's Way. We have had several parents ask about continued donations to support students/families at our school. At Highland we have a Wee Care foundation account. Funds donated to this account are used to pay off school lunch balances or support students or families in other ways. If your family or someone you know is in need please reach out to the office - we have a variety of resources of support.

Don't forget that time changes this weekend! Turn your clocks BACK one hour on Saturday night.

We look forward to seeing all of our students back on Monday in the morning light (instead of the dark) and after they get to sleep off the candy rush of Halloween.

Happy Halloween and Happy Weekend!
