Tomorrow afternoon is also our Hawk Walk kick-off. To help facilitate the assembly, the main office doors will be locked from 1:15-2:00PM. Please plan for check-outs before 1:15PM as students are hard to find during assemblies - and they worry about missing out.

Friday, October 2nd is the State Wide Read-A-Thon sponsored by Utah's First Lady Mrs. Cox. Highland is participating and turning this into a fun day full of reading activities. We've also decided that reading a great book is much more fun when wearing pajamas - so we're also going to have October 2nd be a pajama dress up day!

We have some great news about background checks. Alpine School District is working with all three of the new districts and background checks will transfer to the new district you reside in.

To have your background check transfer over, your information in Skyward must match exactly what is on your legal identification. Please take a moment to check the information you have entered in Skyward so that yours will transfer over.

The first Book Fair of the school year opens next week!! Students will get to shop during their regular library time or can visit during morning shopping hours of 7:30-7:50am. The Book Fair will also be open Wednesday and Thursday during Parent/Teacher conferences from 3:00-6:00PM. We are also looking for a few more volunteers to help run our first book fair of the year. There's been some fun with STEM activities at school this week. First grade used today's storm to learn about lightning. Mrs. Lewis' class has been working on their cardboard arcade games and provided an opportunity for other students to come and play the games today.

Tasting day for our 5 senses unit in kindergarten today. We tried salty- pretzels, sour- lemon, bitter- baker’s chocolate, and sweet chocolate chips.

Lone Peak Mini Guard is sharing this opportunity for students to join.

Mini Guard is on October 8th and is open to anyone ages 6–14. Students will get to learn a short color guard routine with members of the Lone Peak Color Guard and then perform that evening as part of our Marching Band Family Night! No experience is required, and it is open to both boys and girls.

We had a great turnout last year and would love to see some new faces this year! See the attached flyer with all of the information and registration details.

It's hard to believe - Parent/Teacher Conferences are only a couple of weeks away. Conferences will be held September 30th & October 1st (some teachers have additional days). The sign-up window is open from now until Friday, September 25th. Check your email for instructions on how to signup in the new Skyward Q. Please call the office if you need help or have questions.

School Parties and Activities are just around the corner. Make time now to get your fingerprinting/background check done so you'll be ready to volunteer. It takes approximately two weeks to get your background check completed; if you start now you'll be ready for help at any party or activity.

Every volunteer helping at the school must have a background check completed through the School District Live Scan system. This Background check is free of charge and will carry over to the new school district systems and is valid the entire time you have students in school. UVU Women's Soccer and Athletics invites students to their School Night this Saturday, September 12th, at 7 PM! All elementary school kids will get free school supplies and there will be other giveaways as well.

We are looking for a dependable part-time afternoon Head Sweeper. The right person will get to work with our amazing sweeper crew and under the direction of our amazing Facilities Manager, Mr. Marc.

Hours are 3-7PM on School Days. Weekends and Holidays off. Pay is depending on experience but starts at $15.69. Minimum requirements are being 16+ years old, having a high school diploma or GED; having job related experience is a plus.
