Last week, Mrs. Lewis' class celebrated Tax Day by learning about taxes and practicing this life skill.
Here the students had to figure out how much they had to pay in taxes; it was an eye opener and even a little painful for some. What a fun way to learn about money and taxes.

Tomorrow is Spirit Friday. Pull out your favorite Hawk Hoodie to combat the colder weather. Be sure no matter which Hawk attire you wear to dress warmly...it's going to be much colder in the morning and at recess tomorrow (and on the 4th grade field trip).

Hawk Walk Logo Search

Fifth Graders - We need You to Help Design our Hawk Walk Logo!

Hawk Walk 2026 Theme: Be a Hero – Be You!

Get ready to soar—our 26th Annual Hawk Walk! Next year’s theme is all about celebrating the amazing hero inside YOU!

Our theme, “Be a Hero – Be You!”, reminds us that you don’t need a cape or superpowers to make a difference. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes—some show kindness, others stand up for friends, try their best, or spread smiles wherever they go. Every time you choose to be your best self, you’re being a real-life hero!

Now it’s your turn to get creative! We’re on the lookout for next year’s Hawk Walk Logo, and we want YOU to design it.

Think bold, and full of superhero spirit! Your design should show what it means to “Be a Hero – Be You.”

The winning logo will be featured on our Hawk Walk t-shirts, banners, and posters all around the school!

So grab your pencils (or your super stylus) and start designing! We can’t wait to see how you’ll bring our heroic theme to life.

Let’s make Hawk Walk 2026 the most SUPER one yet! Be Brave. Be Kind. Be YOU. Be a Hero!

Deadline to submit your design to the office: Friday, May 1st! Design Requirements:
● Must include the words “Hawk Walk 2026”, “Highland Elementary” and “Be a Hero- Be You”

● Must be Black and White (no color).

● Must be your own original artwork. AI may be used to get the idea, but you need to draw the design.

● Keep it simple and easy to read. Bold lettering is best.

● The logo and wording must be school-appropriate.

● The design must fit on an 8.5”x11” paper.

● Your name must be on the edge of the paper so we can give you credit.

Dear Fellow Library Lovers,

The Highland City Library is Holding a Book Drive and Highland Elementary wants to help. The library will have boxes at our school for the next two weeks - April 20th to May 1st. Please consider donating any books that you no longer want to keep at your homes. The sale of books will benefit the city library and the many programs they run to support the community.

Thanks

We encourage our students, faculty, staff and community to participate in "Purple Up Day" tomorrow by wearing Purple to school.

Governor Cox has included Utah in the April National Recognition of Military Children. April 15 is recognized as “Purple Up Day,” a day for all citizens across Utah to wear purple in visible support of military children, symbolizing the unity and combined strength of all branches of our Armed Forces, as purple represents the combination of the various service branch colors. You can learn more by reading this article: https://highland.alpineschools.org/o/highland/article/2801690

Highland is in the process of becoming a new Purple Star School. As a Purple Star school, we make a commitment to supporting military families and our students of military families. You can learn more about Alpine School District Purple Star Schools here: https://www.alpineschools.org/page/purple-star-schools/

Bring out your purple and "Purple Up" with us tomorrow.

Battle of the Books came to an end this year with two fun assemblies. The 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade classes each attended assemblies. Prizes were awarded for sportsmanship, posters, books read and more. For the conclusion of each assembly the winning students team took on a teacher team. The 3rd/4th grade students were Beared by the teachers and the 5th/6th grade student team triumphed with a two question steal over the teachers. We want to thank Mrs. Fors the PTA chair for Battle of the Books and the MANY volunteers from who made this exciting opportunity available to so many of our students. Next year's book lists will be made available as soon as they are published. Keep on reading!
